By the mid 1980's, Jaguar's venerable XJ6 series had taken on a more squared off appearance in the form of the new XJ40. With its "Cutting Edge" appearance it became quickly adopted as a symbol of affluence in Thatcher's Yuppee Britain. Many of us starting off at that time aspired to own one of these cars.
Then the time was over. We were in the early 90's and the XJ40 was seen as dated and "Old Hat." They were heading down the well trod path of earlier XJ6 models: At best - pub landlords' cars, at worst - Bargain Bangers. In terms of build quality, the cars were little improved over previous XJ6 models and soon succumbed to the ravages of rust rendering them beyond economical repair.
Nowadays then, our car L850 UTU is something of a scarcity. Offered in the desirable combination of 4.0 Litre Automatic & enhanced Sovereign specification it is presented in Morocco Red. The colour appears Aubergine to me but has also been called black & purple but rarely red ☺
With one predominant lady owner, the car has seen little use in the last 15 years spending its time almost constantly garaged. Perhaps this is why the bodywork is largely rustfree and the mileage only circa 73000 genuine. The interior is a stunning combination of virtually unmarked Magnolia Leather & Walnut and even still features the period Jaguar Car phone.
The straight 6 engine purrs smoothly and the automatic box changes effortlessly through the gears making this a very relaxing drive. 12 months MOT & Service will be issued at time of sale.
