Growing up in the 70's, the Ford Granada Mk1 Ghia Coupe was my most favourite car. I knew a couple of people who had them and they were certainly an imposing sight on uk roads, often enhanced by a set of Wolfrace slot alloys.
As a penniless student there was no way I could afford to run one of these. By the time I revisited them again in the 1990's I was disappointed to find that the cars had largely disappeared, victims of that scourge of our climate, rust. Another 10 years later and I was beginning to appreciate the virtues of South Africa as a country where many of our uk classics are preserved, locked in time. It would be another decade before I started tapping into this resource and it would lead to the discovery of the beautiful car we offer here.
By the time Ford had introduced their flagship Ghia level of specification, the Granada Coupe had largely been discontinued in SA. Hence the most popular spec for their Coupe was the XL model similar to our car here. Finished in the genuine Ford colour of Red Velvet with a White Vinyl roof its hard to think of a more striking combination. The car also retains those important elements of the uk specification Ghia Coupe namely the 3.0L Essex V6 engine mated to an Automatic gearbox.
The interior of the car is equally impressive to the outside featuring unmarked tan leatherette and the more desirable series 1 dash with round gauges. Described as a Time Warp car by our source in SA there is no doubt in my mind this vehicle has concours potential. While the non-standard chrome spoke wheels suit the car well, there are available the Ronal style Ford alloys as fitted to later uk spec cars.
The car will be supplied UK registered and with current MOT if applicable.
